Press Review - Digital Education

Good morning ladies and gentlemen, welcome to my press review. I was reading an article the other day in the printed edition of Business Spotlight and it talks about the increasing use of electronic equipment in school. In my mind it is an exciting issue and maybe you will also be as interested in it as I am. I thought you might be interested, because technology is becoming more important nowadays.  Basically what it says is that school looks different in Kenya than in Austria. There is no teacher in the classroom and small groups of ten-year-old children are gathered round tablets, tapping and swiping between brain teasers and educational videos. The students in these classes are using eLimu, which is a local software platform that aims to optimize learning by turning Kenya’s school curriculum into colourful and easy-to-digest exercises. In Kenya are many companies, which try to bring education into the digital era by scanning textbooks, developing bite-sized c...

Statement Fairtrade

Hello everyone! We were reading two articles in school the other day, which were talking about advantages and disadvantages of Fairtrade. Harriet Lamb is a proponent for Fairtrade. Philip Booth is against Fairtrade. The named some good aspects of Fairtrade. I am going to tell you my opinion now. In my mind Fairtrade is great, because thereby small farmers and workers in developing countries get better prices. Still, I have to admit that it happens that there are forgeries of markings sometimes. Another good aspect is that there is no child labor allowed. In addition to that it protects more the environment. All in all better working conditions are ensured, for example no forced labor. In contrast to that Fairtrade product are more expensive and they are not available in all markets. Some say that Fairtrade benefits only a small number of farmers and penalising others. I agree on that, because it is not possible to help all farmers all over the world, but it doe...

Producing and Trading - Game

Producing and Trading Hello everyone! Welcome to my new blog entry. Today I am going to talk about producing and trading. My classmates did an experiment about trading in school. As I was ill on this day, I had to ask our exchange teacher what the game was about. He told us some main information about the game. Basically what the game is about is the production and trade of two different products, bread and cars. There was one developing and one wealthy country. Every player could decide what kind of product he or she wants to specialize on producing. It is also possible to make a mixture of both kind of products. In my opinion I would decide to produce more bread, because it is a basic need for life and everyone needs to have food. In my mind, cars are more a luxury item and not everyone needs it. If you do not have enough money you could buy a bicycle. Although cars are more expensive, I am sure that I will sell more bread and make more money of this product, b...

My motivation for the language week

My motivation for the language week Hello everyone! A new school year has already started and this year we are going on a language week. We are either going to England or to Ireland, but right now we tend to visit England. This blog is about the motivation I have for the language week and on spending time in a host family. I am glad to visit another country, because it will be an unforgettable and lasting experience. What motivates me most is the fact that I will not be able to have a great opportunity like this again . In my mind, the most interesting aspect about another country is its culture and the different habits. It is very significant for me that I learn something new about other people’s lives . I also think that it is very interesting to get information about the host family’s hobbies, freetime activities, cooking habits and about the host country. It is great to get more knowledge of a different culture. Another fascinating aspect is to disc...

Environmental Problems

Hello everyone! Welcome to my blog entry about environmental problems. Today I am going to tell you something about an interesting public survey and about my own habits and recommendations how to protect the environment. Last week I was listening to a poll from teens and it talks about the environment, global warming and nature. I thought you might be interested because this problems concern all of us. I am going to give you some information about now. Three out of four people stated, that global warming is somewhat serious to them. What surprised me most was the fact that almost half people think that it is extremely or very serious. To the question, what the best reason to preserve nature is, answered almost 60% for its own sake. More than every fourth said to preserve the benefits people can get from. The interviewers asked those questioned teens how they feel when they are outdoors. Seven out of ten people of the interview mentioned peaceful and free. Approxi...
