Christmas
Hey everyone!
In our last english lesson we talked about Christmas
in other countries. Now I' ll give you some informations.
In general, they celebrate Christmas on 25th
December in memorial of Jesus Christ birth. Childrens believe that Santa Claus
bring them their present.
Christmas in Canada
Canada is a very large and multi- cultural country.
There are a lot of different christmas traditions celebrated. Some of the
traditions came from French, English, Irish, Scottish and German. Canadian
children believe in Santa Claus. At christmas the canadians eat sweets called Barley
Candy and Chicken Bones.

Christmas in Ireland
Irish People celebrate it much the same way as in the
UK and the USA but they have also an own Tradition. In Irish, Christmas is
called "Nollaig" and Santa Claus is known there as "San
Nicolas" or "Daidi na Nollag". There is an old and special
tradition in some Irish houses. On Christmas Eve, they put a tall, thick candle
on the sill of the largest window after sunset. The candle should burn all
night and it should represent a welcoming light for Mary and Joseph.
I personally celebrate Christmas since my birth. It is
a calm time and it is great to have no school through this time, so you can relax for quite
a long time. It is a very special event and I have a great anticipation every
year. I really like to spend time with my family. On evening 24th, it is
called the Christmas Eve, my family and I celebrate it in a small group. We
exchange presents and we enjoy together the time beside our christmas tree. On the next
day, on Christmas Day 25th, my family, the relatives of my mum and I celebrate
it again. On 26th, the Boxing Day, we celebrate Christmas with the
relatives of my fathers side.
I wish you Merry Christmas or how the Irish People
would say Nollaig Shona and a Happy New Year's Eve.
Kristina
