Stereotypes
Hello everyone!
Welcome to my first entry this
school year. Altough it is a bit busy because of our prom night in November
sometimes, everything is going well in general. What about you?
In our last English lesson we were
talking about Stereotypes in different countries.
What shocked me most was that 42 %
of households in America own guns. Another thing which surprised me was that
for every 100 U.S. resident are 120,5 guns.
In 2019 has been occured more than
one mass shooting per day on average. That is an total unbelievable number.
Another things which were very
interesting in this lesson were the thoughts of Americans about stereotypically
Austrian.
Most of the Americans don’t even
know Austria and where it is and if they do, they think it is the same as
Germany. Us Austrians put much vulue not to compare us to Germany especially
not to think as equal.
Another Americans confound Austria
with Australia, that is why many think of Kangaroos when they think about
Austria.
When somebody of America knows
Austria, they think of our traditional clothing the „Lederhose“ and „Dirndl“ sometimes.
I think this is fantastic and we can be proud oft hat.
An amazing thing is, that many
remember the movie „The Sound of Music“, because it is a very popular and
famous movie in the USA.
That is all for today! What do you
think about Austrians or Americans? Do you have any stereotypical clichees? Let
me know. I am highly interested in it.
